After releasing a 100-track album to accompany his still-forthcoming novel last November, former Das Racist member Kool A.D. has dropped four albums since March: All Love, Real Talk, Kool A.D. Is Dead (which was just released earlier this month), and Gods of Tomorrow, released yesterday (June 28). The 12 track album, which features, among others, Hellfyre Club member Busdriver, is available for purchase on Kool A.D.’s bandcamp.
Despite early dismissals as immature, stoner comedy-rappers (mostly due to breakout single “Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell“), Das Racist members Heems and Kool A.D. have proven themselves time and again as some of the most interesting rappers in the game. Heems’ debut studio album, Eat Pray Thug, received critical praise for its depictions of the rapper’s struggles as an Indian in America after the events of 9/11. Kool A.D.’s consistent output has attracted the attention of such high-profile artists as Killer Mike, Toro Y Moi, and Talib Kweli. Kool’s laidback style and abstract lyricism fits well over the lazy, glitchy beats on Gods of Tomorrow, which gets most of its production from frequent collaborator Amaze 88.
