While July’s already shaping up to be a month of high-profile releases, several more low-profile artists have released new projects in the last few days that deserve your attention. Check out these albums from Brian Fresco, Supa Bwe, and Clairmont the Second.
Brian Fresco – Casanova
Chicago’s SaveMoney collective has been heating up the summer, with high-profile releases from Chance the Rapper, Joey Purp, and Vic Mensa heating up the airwaves, but the release schedule is far from over. Casanova is the third release from Brian Fresco, following 2013’s Mafioso and 2014’s SoulMoney, and it’s by far his best. The tape features a range of Chicago artists, including BJ The Chicago Kid, GLC, CJ Fly, and Chance the Rapper on standout summer jam “Higher”.
Supa Bwe – Dead Again 3
Formerly of beloved Chicago rap collective Hurt Everybody, which disbanded this past January, 24-year-old rapper Supa Bwe has just released his latest album, titled Dead Again 3. The twelve-track album is the third in Supa’s Dead Again series, but fans unfamiliar with the first two will have to scrounge the internet for a download, as they have been removed from Supa’s soundcloud. Dead Gain 3 features Mick Jenkins (who’s collaborative album with Hurt Everybody, Potion[s], has yet to see the light of day), Twista, UG Vavy, and Chance the Rapper.
Clairmont The Second – Quest for Milk and Honey
After making waves earlier this year with his excellent collaboration with Harrison on “It’s Okay, I Promise”, Toronto’s Clairmont the Second dropped his fourth album on Sunday, titled Quest for Milk and Honey. The tape, which features fellow Toronto artists Cola, Blues, and Aysha Brown, was entirely produced, mixed, and mastered by Clairmont, and finds the rapper coming into his own. Clairmont’s signature soulful, storytelling approach to rap makes him one of the most interesting young rappers coming out of Toronto.
