After a week of excellent releases from Jeremih, Lil Yachty, Westside Gunn, and others, new music Friday has arrived with a host of new albums for you. Check them out below, along with a couple of albums that dropped on Thursday:
Curren$y – Weed & Instrumentals 2
Spitta Andretti’s eigth project of 2016, Weed & Instrumentals 2, is more of a posse cut of artists on Curren$y’s Jet Life Recordings roster. While he makes many appearances, a decent handful of tracks are handed to Corner Boy P, Tiny C Style, T.Y., Mr. Marcelo, and Fiend.
DJ Drama – Quality Street Music 2
The acclaimed producer, whose Gangsta Grillz series of mixtapes has been responsible for promoting some of the biggest names in hip hop, has released his fifth studio album today with Quality Street Music 2. The list of features are incredible, including Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Freddie Gibbs, Dave East, T.I., Young Thug, Mac Miller, and Jeezy.
Gucci Mane – Everybody Looking
Gucci’s first album since getting out of prison seven weeks ago, Everybody Looking was reportedly made in six days based off of songs Gucci wrote in prison. With a uncharacteristically sparse list of features (only Drake, Young Thug, and Kanye West appear on the tape), the album showcases how much Gucci has progressed while still sounding the same as he always has. Production mostly comes from his go-to producers, Zaytoven and Mike WiLL Made-It, who recently did an AMA about the recording process.
Jarren Benton – Slow Motion 2
In his sequel to last year’s Slow Motion EP, Jarren Benton (formerly of Hopsin’s now-defunct Funk Volume label) has released 16 new tracks. The tape features collaborations with artists including Dizzy Wright, Futuristic, EarthGang, Chris Webby, and Micah Freeman. Producers include JUSTICE League, Kato, M16, and Statik Selektah on final track “Miss You”. Cop it on Datpiff.
Lil Durk – Lil Durk 2x
After teasing a free release on Datpiff for months now, and missing two projected release dates, Lil Durk decided to release the followup to last year’s 300 Days 300 Nights on iTunes. Lil Durk 2x features Future, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, Yo Gotti, and Durk’s rumored girlfriend Dej Loaf (on “My Beyonce”, one of two songs on the album that appeared on 300 Days). The Def Jam/Coke Boy Records rapper is a favourite in the Chicago drill scene, and 2x is his ninth release since his breakout 2011 mixtape I’m A Hitta.
Skywlkr – joints
Detroit producer Skywlkr, best known for being Danny Brown’s DJ and a part of the rapper’s Bruiser Brigade collective, has released his third beattape with Joints, available here. The tape features Bruiser Brigade rapper Dopehead, along with producers Shamana, Matrax, and Kenny Beats.
Stephen Marley – Revelation Pt. II: The Fruit Of Life
Stephen Marley, the second-eldest child of reggae legend Bob Marley, has released the followup to 2011’s Grammy award-winning Revelation Pt. I: The Root of Life. The Fruit of Life features an incredible array of guest spots, including features from Rakim, Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Black Thought, Twista, DJ Khaled, and Pitbull.
Zaytoven – Where Would The Game Be Without Me?
The title of Zaytoven’s latest mixtape is ambitious, but with good reason. The Atlanta rapper essentially started the entire trap movement with his production of “So Icy”, the track that boosted both Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy into international acclaim. Zaytoven’s new mixtape is a compilation of previously released songs, from albums including DJ Esco’s E.T.: Esco Terrestrial, Gucci Mane’s Everybody Looking, Migos’ 3 Way EP, and Juicy J’s Lit In Ceylon, among others. Cop it on Datpiff.
