Sincerely Collins Gets Autobiographical

Sincerely Collins’ latest album, The Legend of the Phoenix, is an autobiographical look into the young artist’s tumultuous life.

The album, released for free on Datpiff and Soundcloud, details the unsolved disappearance of Collins’ mother when the artist was two years old. Through his impressively natural proclivity for storytelling, the Arizona rapper weaves his mother’s disappearance, his absent father, being raised by his grandparents, and his rise to fame in the rap industry into a richly textured album that soundtracks his struggles with abandonment and depression. On his website, Collins states:

“This album is basically an autobiography. A microscopic look into my life from day one. I’ve pushed through adversity so many times in one lifetime you would think I was searching for it. As far as ‘limelight’, well that’s where I am now. It’s a representation of the diamond. The result of all the previous pressure and darkness.”

The Legend of the Phoenix finds Collins acting as producer and mixer, with Tony Chocolate, Qux, Charlie Handsome, and AJ ‘Stori’ Sharafeddin. Featured on the album, alongside some of Collins’ regulars including Sareena Dominguez and Miny, are Jarren Benton (fresh off the release of his latest project), Roscoe Dash, and Troy Ave. The album is musically diverse, mixing uplifting, pop-inspired tracks with long, atmospheric ballads that allows Collins to showcase his various skills, from singing to rapping to producing.

After receiving acclaim for his debut project, Sincerely, the Mixtape, Collins’ first album Destroyer brought the young rapper greater attention, mostly from debut single “Give Me Love”. Despite the attention Collins received from Funk Volume and Strange Music (both Jarren Benton and Rittz were featured on Destroyer), he remains unsigned.
