The Return of Nas

Today, Nas dropped his first song in four years:

A collaboration with neo-soul pioneer Erykah Badu, “This Bitter Land” comes off the soundtrack for upcoming film The Land (executive produced by Nas), which chronicles a group of young black kids in Cleveland pursuing their dream of professional skateboarding. The soundtrack also includes contributions from Kanye West, French Montana, Pusha T, Machine Gun Kelly, Dave East, and many more.

Nas is also executive producing The Get Down, an upcoming Netflix drama directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin RougeRomeo + Juliet). The show chronicles the rise of hip hop in the Bronx, and Nas personally wrote every rap in the film.

On top of his extensive work in film and television, Nas recently unveiled that he’s finished his new album in an unconventional way: through DJ Khaled’s new album tracklist.

As you can see, track three is bluntly titled “Nas Album Done”. A thirty second preview of the song was recently released on Audiomack.

Nas’ as-yet-untitled new album will be the rapper’s first since 2012’s Life Is Good, a highly introspective album that dealt with Nas’ divorce from pop singer Kelis (of “Milkshake” fame). Nas is touted as one of the greatest rappers of all time; his album Illmatic is one of the most influential hip hop releases ever, and he’s currently tied with Eminem for having the third-most number one albums on the Billboard 200 list.
