Not every new album drops on a Friday, so here’s a few of the excellent albums that have dropped in the past few days:
Archibald Slim & Ethereal – Slum Beautiful

While Awful Records founder Father is by far the most well-known artist on the collective’s roster, other artists including Abra, KeithCharles Spacebar, and Tommy Genesis have been receiving some much-deserved acclaim. Today, two of the collective’s more lesser-known members, Archibald Slim and Ethereal teamed up for collaborative EP Slum Beautiful, named for Cee-Lo Green-assisted interlude on Outkast’s Stankonia album. Fellow Awful Records artists Stalin Majesty and Alexandia make appearances, as well as 19-year-old Atlanta singer/songwriter Faye Webster (who did an excellent acoustic cover of Father’s “Cheap Thrills“).
G-Unit – The Lost Flash Drive

DJ Whoo Kid’s been hosting mixtapes by East Coast rap collective G-Unit since 50 Cent’s first mixtape in 2002, and has continued to be an integral part of the group that now consists of Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck, and Kidd Kidd. The Lost Flash Drive is a compilation of unreleased songs from 2014’s The Beauty of Independence and 2015’s The Beast Is G-Unit. 50 himself even makes an appearance on bonus track “Wait A Minute”, a remix of Phreshner’s hit single from earlier this year.
Hodgy Beats – Dukkha

Hodgy Beats is one of several underrated names to come out of the Odd Future collective, despite being one of the group’s most talented wordsmiths (he’s responsible for Tyler, the Creator’s favourite verse on the rapper’s 2014 album Wolf). While almost every other member of the collective has blown up (from Frank Ocean to Domo Genesis), Hodgy’s managed to stay on the peripheral while still making appearances on tracks by Alison Wonderland and Med, Blu & Madlib, and he’s maintained a steady release of mixtapes in anticipation of his debut album World Champion, due out later this year and slated to include Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne among its contributors. Dukkha was released through Hodgy’s website as a prelude to the album, and features Ben Great, Rarri, and producer Thelonious Martin.
Lil Yachty – Lost Files EP

Producer Digital Nas has been making a name for himself by working with a range of newer internet rappers – including Playboi Carti, Larry League, and Levi Carter – as well as producing several songs for Lil Yachty (including “Up Next 2” and “Lil Boat“). Apparently, Yachty and Digital Nas worked quite a bit a year ago, and several songs they made together never made it past the cutting room floor: in the K$upreme-assisted intro, the producer states “I was finna let these shits be throwaways, but I’m going to do this for the people”. Four songs are compiled on the short EP, released on Digital Nas’ Soundcloud.
Golden – Just To Be A Better Person

Since his appearance on Donnie Trumpet’s Surf and Kelechi’s Before the Quarter, Chicago artist Mike Golden’s debut solo album has been highly anticipated. He’s been a part of indie rock band Mike Golden & Friends since 2010, but Just Be a Better Person is his first recording as a solo artist. Donnie Trumpet is all over the album, as both a performer and a producer, along with trombonist JP Floyd (of Kids These Days), Kelechi and fellow Chicago artist Kweku Collins. It’s an excellent end-of-summer album that deftly explores the ups and downs of relationships and the struggle for self-actualization.
Ralo – Diary of the Streets 2

Atlanta rapper Ralo has thrown himself in with the whole Freebandz Gang (honestly expecting him to join the label soon), as well as working often with Young Thug. Now, he seems to be eyeing a spot among Cash Money by getting Birdman to host his latest mixtape, Diary of the Street 2. Alongside two appearances by Baby himself, Thug, Future, Young Scooter, YFN Lucci, Shy Glizzy, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage all appear on the 19-track album.
Skippa Da Flippa – I’m Tellin Ya

The unofficial “fourth Migos”, Skippa da Flippa has been one of Quality Control’s most consistent artists. I’m Tellin Ya is his second release of the year (after April’s I’m Having 2), and while Migos are surprisingly absent, Lil Yachty, Young Thug, Juicy J, Blac Youngsta, and Dave East all appear on the mixtape.
