Drake Announces New Project, ‘More Life’

Tomorrow (October 24th) is Drake’s 30th birthday, and to celebrate Drake took to his OVO Sound Radio show to present a special birthday mix. A lot of new music was played, new collabs were teased (more on that below), but the most noteworthy event of the show was the announcement of a new Drake project. Kind of.

Coming this December is More Life, which described as more of a “playlist” than an album/mixtape. Drake already challenged what exactly defines a mixtape by selling (in both digital and physical form) his last ‘mixtape’, 2015’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, but now he seems to have abandoned the term altogether. Nobody really knows what constitutes a playlist in Drake’s opinion, but the 6 god stated that the project would have all original music “with the fam”, leading many to believe it’s going to be an OVO compilation album in the same manner as GOOD Music’s Cruel Summer or any of MMG’s Self Made albums. Along with the announcement, Drizzy dropped the cover art on his Instagram (featuring his father, Dennis Graham? I think? The mustache fits):

More Life 🌺 new project dropping in DECEMBER

This announcement comes after Cortez Bryant, Lil Wayne’s manager, told Rap Radar that there were “2 or 3 Drake albums coming out this year,”. On top of More Life, Drake is also reportedly working on projects with Gucci Mane (tentatively titled The 6ers) and Kanye West.

Throughout the OVO radio show, Drake played projects across his entire discography (from Room for Improvement through to IYRTITL), as well as a couple rarer, non-album tracks (“I Get Lonely Too“, “Days In The East“). After playing tracks by 21 Savage (“Ocean Drive”), Solange (“Mad”), Giggs (“Whippin’ Excursion”), Riff Raff (“Back From the Dead”), Smoke Dawg (“Overseas”), and many more, Drake started premiering new music.

Starting with new tracks by dancehall artist Popcaan and Toronto rapper P Reign, Drake played two new solo songs (titled “2 Birds 1 Stone” and “Fake Love”), a remix of teenage Grime rapper Dave’s “Wanna Know”, and a collaboration with 21 Savage titled “Sneakin'”. Check out the “Wanna Know” remix below.

The OVO Sound show isn’t over yet, so I’ll keep updating this if we learn any more.
