Eric B. & Rakim Are Reuniting, 23 Years Later

23 years after breaking up, one of the foremost DJ/MC teams in hip hop history has decided to reunite.

Producer Eric B. and rapper Rakim released four albums between 1987 and 1992 (two of which went gold, one of which went platinum), and had massive hits like “Eric B. Is President”, “Microphone Fiend”, and “Don’t Sweat the Technique”. After a mostly amicable split in 1992 (despite legal issues with their label), Eric B. and Rakim went on pursue solo careers, but never could match the quality of their collaboration.

Their reunion is set to include a tour and a remastered re-release of their discography, as well as releasing new videos to some of their biggest tracks. There’s been no definite announcement of new material, but Eric B.’s rep, Louis Gregory, stated that the duo are taking it “one step at a a time“.

The announcement took an interesting turn on Instagram when Quasimoto, the rapping, cartoon alter-ego of prolific producer Madlib, posted a picture stating “Proud to announce the reformation of Eric B, Rakim, and Quas. New album and tour in 2017”.

It’s highly doubtful that they’re doing an album together, and he may very well just be wheresabel-ing it, but an Eric B. & Rakim tour with Lord Quas as the opener wouldn’t be a show you’d want to miss. At the very least, this post confirms the long-awaited fourth Quasimoto album, which is a headline in itself.
