You know the picture. The Instagram post from this April that had the entire rap internet freaking out, the one that promised the hip hop equivalent of a unicorn: “the new Andre 3000 album”.
This always seemed like a strange group of people to have on a single project, but given André’s tendency to blend genres, having a beatboxer and a member of the White Stripes on the same record isn’t that unimaginable. Since Q-Tip announced the feature list for A Tribe Called Quest’s last album, however, this musical supergroup makes a lot more sense.
For the group’s first album in eighteen years, and final album considering the recent passing of key member Phife Dawg, André 3000 and Jack White are both confirmed to make appearances (as are Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Busta Rhymes, and Consequence). Jarobi White hasn’t had a credited occurrence on the group’s work since their 1990 debut, but he’s also confirmed to have worked on the new album, titled We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service.
It’s still unknown why Chris Rock explicitly stated that they were working on a new 3stacks album. Maybe André simply grabbed some of the same people, but it’s more likely that we were (unsurprisingly) trolled by Chris Rock.
Grab We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service on November 11th.
