Yasiin Bey Announces his Final Album

Shortly after ending his legal issues with his former home of South Africa (regarding his attempted use of an unofficial ‘world passport’) and announcing four homecoming final concerts in the United States, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) has announced one final album before his retirement.

December 99th is, appropriately, dropping December 9th, fulfilling his promise to drop his final LP by the end of the year. It’s a collaborative project with producer/journalist Ferrari Sheppard, who provided the instrumentals for all of the December 99th tracks Bey has been dropping on Soundcloud over the past year. The tracks have since been deleted, but previously released songs “N.A.W.”, “Tall Sleeves” and “Local Time” are all going to be on December 99th.

Tracklist:

  1. N.A.W.
  2. Blade in the Pocket
  3. SPESH
  4. Local Time
  5. Tall Sleeves
  6. Seaside Panic Room
  7. Shadow in the Dark
  8. It Goes
  9. Special Dedication

December 99th will, unfortunately, be released as a Tidal exclusive, but will undoubtedly be dropping on other platforms shortly thereafter. Bey’s final four shows will run between December 21st and January 2nd in New York and DC, and each will feature Bey performing one of his previous four albums (Black on Both Sides, The New Danger, True Magic, and The Ecstatic).

Note: previously reported news that Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and J. Cole will be featured on Bey’s final album have been denied by the artist’s camp. December 99th is not expected to have any features.
