Lil Wayne Announces 3 Albums For 2017

The only project Lil Wayne dropped this year was Collegrove, his collaborative album with 2 Chainz, as his long-standing issues with Birdman and Cash Money have kept his next studio album in limbo for years now. Having standing lawsuits with both his label boss and Universal Studios, it’s understandable that Wayne’s creative process has been dampened, but he’s ready to take 2017 with three new albums.

Yesterday, Wayne took to Facebook to announce Dedication 6 (in his mixtape series with DJ Drama), Funeral (a mixtape he teased on The Nine Club last November), and, ambitiously, Tha Carter V. Hopefully Wayne teasing CV isn’t just wishful thinking; dare we hope there’s been some unexpected headway in his negotiations with Birdman?

Lil Wayne’s last few releases (Sorry 4 the Wait 2Free Weezy AlbumNo Ceilings 2) have been underwhelming and critically panned, but this past year has honestly seen some of the best Weezy verses in years. Wayne held his own on Collegrove, particularly with excellent tracks like “Bounce” and “Gotta Lotta”, but he really shone on three specific feature verses this year: DJ Drama’s “Intro”, Baby E.’s “Bando”, and, most notably, Solange’s “Mad”. If Tunechi can continue to rap at the caliber of last year’s music, 2017 is going to be a very exciting year for Lil Wayne fans.

EDIT: According to Mack Maine, Wayne also has an album called Velvet coming out early this year, as well as a collaborative album with Gudda Gudda and HoodyBaby titled L.A.T..
